Need Your Input on Your High Heel Habits + Shoe Pad Giveaway!!!

Picture_7_3

Hey Manolo lovers and Jimmy Chooholics… need your help and input. If you’ve been around The Luxe Mix since the good old days when I first started this, you should recall a post I did about high heels and how to wear them comfortably. This is a topic near and dear to my heart. So near and dear to me that I actually invented my own shoe pad. Mmmmmm Hmmmm, that’s right ladies. I have the perfect solution to all your toe boo boos and foot owwies. I tried pretty much every shoe pad out there to try to make my life at work on heels a little more bearable. I’ve tried everything at the store and a ton more tricks that I had up my sleeve.. until finally one day I said screw it I’m going to make my own shoe pad.

Thanks to Choxie Snoops, who has stepped in like the ever-energetic and superpowered leading lady that she is, we are bringing these foot pads to life! We are just getting ready to soft-launch our first batch of them in a couple weeks.

You can get your very first sample of our shoe pad by filling out 10 quick responses on our Heel Habits Survey. This offer is limited to fill it our quick! We’ll be giving away pads to the first 100 respondents. Please be patient for your shoe pad sample as we will be sending these out when we soft-launch our first batch.

Thanks for you help and participation. One day soon we will end foot pain for all.

What’s the Luxe Mix?

"Luxe" defined by Dictionary.com:

luxury; elegance; sumptuousness: accommodations providing luxe at low rates.

After talking with some people about my blog I realized I have never really defined what "Luxe" and the "Luxe Mix" is all about. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t even sure if the word "Luxe" existed in the English language. I’ve seen it used here and there in fashion magazine and such and I pretty drew my own conclusions of the meaning.

My own take on luxe…

"Luxe" — something that is luxury in style and essence. This is not constrained to luxury goods in my mind. I believe something that looks or feels "luxe" can be regarded or perceived to be luxury and does not necessarily mean it has to cost a lot of money.

The "Luxe Mix" –  a strategy I use in my personal styling. I don’t believe an individual has to spend exorbitant amounts of money to look "luxury."  There are some key goods that I firmly believe require quality investment such as handbags, shoes, certain jewelery and some beauty products. But other than that there’s so much great fashion and lifestyle products that come at incredibly affordable prices these days (see Luxe for Less).  You can see a huge shift in the fashion industry towards what’s referred to as "disposable clothing." Thanks to retailers like Forever21 and H&M, everyone can afford to look great.

I must caveat that my take on fashion and lifestyle goods works for me but wouldn’t suit others — especially my friend who I call "iRobot". iRobot shops much less frequently than me but anytime she makes a purchase it’s a life long purchase and she typically only buys the high end designer goods f’sho!! I on the other hand crave new things all the time. I get sick of things pretty quickly so it doesn’t make economical sense to purchase luxury goods at luxury prices.

So stay tuned to the Luxe Mix as I continue my quest for the life of Luxe without going for broke!

Luxe Mix for March — 15 Items = 27 Looks!

I’m all about maximizing my clothes. I like to get the most out of every piece I buy. The problem is a lot of the time I end up buying stuff on a whim without thinking through what I’m going to do with this thing once I get home. I’ve been thinking about this fashion/shopping/coordination solution for a bit and here’s my first attempt at creating a true Luxe Mix — a mix of luxe items that create a mini-wardrobe for the next few weeks… ok hopefully month or so. These items range in price but that’s what makes a good mix. You’ve got to complement cheaper items with quality in order to not look like you stepped out of walmart — not that i’ve anything against discount clothing but I think if you care about fashion and style you might as well look classy and sophisticated regardless of how much or little $$ you spend. If people are intersted I’ll shoot for creating more Luxe Mixes with more affordable pieces in the future.

Enjoy!

Visual Search! Like.com Offers a New Way to Shop Online w/o Having to Read all that Text

I was blown away when I first saw this site. The technology introduced on this site will forever change the way we shop for fashion online. I’m really serious!!

www.like.com

I must forwarn the site is still in beta so it’s extremely quirky and often stalls my browser or crashes it completely. I’m sure as time goes on the performance will improve steadily.

In any case it’s worth a look. They have built a system that allows shoppers to pick a product, like a shoe, shirt, or handbag and scour the web for similar looking products. Of course the search is contrained to sites like.com crawls so it’s not everything out there but maybe one day it will.

Above is a visual search I conducted on black heels. what’s great is that you can use your cursor to zone in on a specific part of the shoe or product that you like, such as the metal buckle of one of the shoes, or the stilleto heel and the search engine will retrieve all black heels that match that visual element.

I heard that the techonology they are using was originally built for facial recognition software. I’m glad they decided to put it to good use finally! Who cares about faces when you can be saving hours and hours of aimless searching for the perfect black patent leather stilleto??

Luxe for Less – March 11 2007

Looking good doesn’t always mean you have to unload mega bucks on top of the line designer labels. You can find fashonable clothes for less if you hunt a bit (something I do much much too much). If you’ve got the funds than by all means go for it but for those of us who like to update their wardrobes more often without breaking the bank, here’s a few items for spring you can add to your closet for considerably less.

Sorry the images aren’t clickable… still trying to figure out Image maps with Typepad. Use the links at the end of the post.

Who's the Luxe Mix?

I wouldn't qualify myself as anything official when it comes to fashion but I might officially qualify as a shopaholic. To keep from going broke I have learned to mix the luxe with the less, the cheap with the chic. I'm a technology junkie in addition to being hopelessly fashion obsessed so while I am a corporate UX designer by day, by night I am an obsessively compulsively working up visions of a splendid online fashion retail nirvana. Contact me if you want my input on how to transform your fashion house into a mass-tech-revolutionized business.
