Brown is everywhere this coming fall, like a favorite cousin from 2025 we want to keep around. So if you haven’t invested in a brown accessory yet, this is your sign that it’s time. Four brown bags: two in genuine suede, two in vegan or faux suede, and an $8,466 difference between the first and last at today’s prices. Naturally, I wanted to know what we’re actually paying for.
Brown suede is doing what it always does best: making an ordinary shape look richer. It is softer than black, more tactile than smooth leather, and very good with denim, gray, navy, and cream.
This is not a neat four-step price ladder. Gap and Old Navy sit in nearly the same budget lane; Quince is only slightly higher; then Chanel leaves the atmosphere. The useful comparison is shape, material, and how much reality you want in your suede.
The texture is the point. The purity test is not.
The Chocolate Cake Brown Slouchy Tote is the roomy, unstructured version. It is vegan suede—100% polyester, not leather—and, at 15 by 17 inches, it is the largest carryall here. I personally love hobo bags because they lend that je ne sais quoi effect to any look, plus they fit a ton without ruining the shape of the bag. I would wear this with jeans or something more polished; it works for everyday looks during the week and can easily carry you into the weekend, too.
It was $34, down from a regular price of $69.95, and in stock when I checked.
The Dark Chocolate Carrie Tote is $36.99 before whatever promotion is running that day. This is also an insanely good deal. I have always bought the cheap version of a trend, so if you’re not sure how long this bag will work for you, I suggest this one or the Gap one. The outside is faux suede, not leather. The payoff is a taller, more structured tote with one polished buckle detail and almost no commitment.
For genuine suede, the Quinn in Whiskey is the cleanest entry point: Italian calf suede, a cotton-twill lining, and an adjustable webbed strap. It’s a sling bag, not a traditional style, so it stands out from the others. I love the way it hugs your silhouette and adds interest to your profile. It will also be handy—and hands-free!
Also: it is not marked down from $168. Quince calls $168 “traditional retail” and explicitly says $74 is not a sale. Small distinction.
The Maxi Flap in camel suede calfskin is in a different category, even if it occupies the same collage. The $8,500 figure is Chanel’s suggested retail price, availability is through Chanel boutiques, and, let’s be real, 99.9% of us cannot afford this bag. But that doesn’t mean we can’t look. It is the fantasy reference—the bag that explains why the entire category is relevant right now. I love seeing what’s out there from high to low—the exact reason this blog exists: the luxe mix.
