I bought eight pieces at Aritzia for that September-to-October stretch when the mornings feel like fall but the afternoons have other plans.
Instead of creating five generic “fall outfits,” I built each look around somewhere I would actually wear it: dinner, a day of meetings, a museum, an all-day outing and a client presentation. Once the occasion was clear, the rest—proportion, texture and especially the shoes—became much easier to decide.

A white button-up with tailored brown trousers can turn corporate very quickly. The version I liked has softer definition at the waist, an open collar and sleeves pushed up rather than a crisp, formal tuck.
The brown square-toe sandal keeps the proportions relaxed and makes sense for the warmer part of fall. It still looks pulled together for the office, but it feels like something I would actually choose.

The plum Twirl Skirt does most of the visual work here. The black satin camisole gives it definition, while the cream blazer keeps the overall palette light.
The ballet flat was the important change. A heavier shoe weighed down the pleats, while a heel pushed the outfit further into evening. The cream flat repeats the lighter color of the blazer and stays comfortable for several hours of walking or standing.

I would wear this to a client presentation or networking lunch—something professional where I still want the outfit to have a point of view.

They are the quieter pieces in the haul. The Lodge Pant gives me a softer alternative to a tailored brown trouser. The black hoodie and Souvenir Pant create a simple tonal base that also works under the Alliance Jacket. Not every purchase needs to lead an outfit to be useful.
For September and October, I do not need heavy layering. I need layers I can remove, richer textures that still feel light, and shoes that can change the level of formality.
That is the common thread through these five outfits: satin with tailoring, cream against deeper fall colors, and one specific shoe choice for the actual day ahead. These are clothes for the plans I already have—not an imaginary fall life.
